Technical Stuff

This program is written using JavaScript, therefore network connection speed to the internet does not change the programs ability to keep time acurately. JavaScript is client side language, the code is running on your PC rather than on your ISP’s server. All graphic images are preloaded before execution of the timing program.

Test Your Reaction Time

Background:

In Flyball, the start dog’s (dog that is running first in a team of four dogs) handler releases his/her dog on the first yellow light in an attempt to have the dog cross the start line just as the light tree flashes a green light. This would allow the dog to be in full stride just as he/she cross the start line and if timed correctly will have a competitive edge against his/her opponent.

There are exceptions, start dog that is smaller and/or slower that is setup closer to the start line may be released on the second yellow light.

Handler’s hand eye coordination plays a big part in the ability to achieve a “.000” start time. That is, the number of seconds it takes for the start dog to reach the start line after the light flashes green. Release too early and you will be flagged or red lighted, meaning the dog crossed the start line before the green light is displayed.

Of course, the position of where the start dog should be setup based on the speed of your dog plays an equally important role but is outside the scope of this topic.

Please note: we based this program on U-FLI™'s DSS.

Objective:

Click on the “Go!” button as soon as the first yellow light is displayed on the light tree. Your reaction time will be displayed at the end of the sequence. As we have based this program on U-FLI™’s DSS, the light sequence are Blue-Yellow-Yellow-Green, at 1.1 second interval between the lights. So, the “Go!” button must be clicked after the Blue, as the first Yellow is displayed.

Hint: To achieve a “.000” score, you will need to anticipate the 1st yellow light display and time it perfectly.

Instruction:

  1. When you are ready to proceed, click on the “Ready!” button.
  2. The “Ready!” button will change to “Go!” button. The light tree will briefly flash the light sequence from bottom up, meaning “Green – 2nd Yellow – 1st Yellow – Blue”, then all lights will be displayed “off”.
  3. The light tree will start the display sequence “Blue – 1st Yellow – 2nd Yellow – Green”, as soon as the 1st Yellow is displayed, click on the “Go!” button.
  4. The “Go!” button will change to “Wait!” box. Do not click on the “Wait!” box (it will not do anything).
  5. The light tree sequence will complete and your reaction time is displayed. A red light will be displayed, if you clicked the “Go!” button too early.
  6. The “Wait!” box will change to “Ready!” button. Click on “Ready!” button if you want to try again.
